First blog post ever!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for checking out my blog.  You’ll have to forgive me if this starts a bit awkwardly but I think the title pretty much sums it up.  I’m the reticent blogger!  I suppose some of it is listening to my own advice to my daughter about being careful what you post or reveal online while some of it is not understanding why anyone would want to read my thoughts on random topics.  That being said, I’m looking forward to returning to school this semester with ETEC 647E and studying emerging technologies.  In particular, I’m looking forward to the section on MOOCs since I just don’t understand them!  How do they work?  Why do they people do them?  More importantly, what do I tell my boss if he asks me to create one?  Hopefully I figure it all out before that happens.

As I wrap up my first blog post,  I ask you to please bear with me as my thoughts meander from topic to topic and feel free to chime in with your own thoughts.

Aloha,

Jon

  1. Totally agreed about being careful with what you post online. I’m in the same vein, and I don’t usually post anything I may feel is pretty redundant to say, or would simply be some odd rant.

I’ve also never taken a MOOC before, though I’m finding it to be a cool experience!

  2. Hey Jon,
It’s also my first time blogging. This is all new to me and I too am weary of posting things that anyone out there can read. Glad to hear you’ve decided to return to school! I think many of us are in the same boat of not experiencing a MOOC prior to this class. I’m curious to see what this course will bring.

  3. Hi Jon,

I feel the same way. Last semester was the first time I ever enrolled in an online course. Similar to ETEC 647E, the course required a reflection blog and weekly posts. I never thought in a billion years that I would create a blog. I always thought, “Who wants to hear what I have to say?,” or “What is there to say?” It took me awhile to get used to it and be comfortable with my words. I am still a little hesitant and not fully comfortable but I try my best. I’m sure you’ll do the same. The one thing that I will never be comfortable with is posting pictures of myself and my family.

    Thanks for the blog!
